Peggy was found last week running the streets of Tampa bay. A kind person picked her up and had her scanned for a microchip. Luckily to their surprise she did have a chip and they tried contacting the information provided. All phone numbers disconnected and they no longer lived at the address, but they did find out it was implanted by a local SPCA... Over 10 years ago... So they brought her back to the original shelter where unfortunately they did not have any better luck tracking down the owner...
Not only did Miss Peggy have her age working against herm but she has a long term yeast infection that has been an on going issue that was never treated so it's going to take some time to heal her skin. Her poor ears are so badly infected that the canals are almost shut as well... Despite all this, Miss Peggy is always wearing a fantastic smile!

Hey There
I'm "Elijah" the Elderbull...
I'm a around a bout 10 year old Pit Bull that's "Got
ya Day" is on 08/26/2011. Some of you may know
what that is, and some of you may not... So let me explain...
A "Got ya Day" is the day when dogs are picked
either by a Forever Family, or Rescue from a shelter
and have a chance to live... It's what we like to call
our new birthday, our "Got ya day"...
Yes, that's right... Yours truly was an Elderbull sitting
in a shelter, waiting for... Boy I don't even want to
think of what I was waiting for to happen... I just
remember it being cold, people being sad and there just
being so many of us. I don't like to think about that
though, because on my Got ya Day, that's when my life
started over. You have to live looking every day ahead,
not thinking about what could have been, or how it hurt
along the way. Think about the smiles that you get to
see when your people wake up and get you pet you. The
feel of the sun on your furr when you sit outside on
a warm summer day...
It all happened so fast... I remember waking up and
the people walking by "So sad", "One
that old shouldn't be sitting in a shelter" , "How
do you let your dog go when they are that old?",
then some people came and gave me hugs, kisses and put
a leash around me, I was in a car for quite some time,
and then I met my "Mom" for all intents and
purposes. Sense then, I've combined forces with her
and the Rescue who helped me get here to make people
aware of the Elderbull problem in shelters...
Without people like my "Mommy" who is fostering
me until I find a Forever mommy I wouldn't even be here,
and I can't even think about that... Beyond that, without
people who open their forever lives for Edlerbulls like
me to love we wouldn't have forever homes at all. Could
you imagine a world without rescued Elderbulls? What
a boring place that would be.! Pups can't keep up with
me, plus I don't cause half of the problems they do,
just remember that!
**UPDATE 09/24/2011**
Mr Elijah had surgery today...He had a few of his skin
tumors removed, neutered and they had to do a whole
scrotal ablation due to having a little bump on them
too...All and all he is feeling well after surgery (He
has to wear a "Happy Hat" ) because he wants
to lick at his sutures but he is recovering fine!A few
more visits to the Dr, and he should be able to start
looking for his forever home and start his Therapy dog
training!

"Gentle
Ben" is a wonderful 1-2 Year old Male boy who was
found wandering as a stray with healed over ears that
are cut down to his head, and just a hole where his
eye should be with infection settling in...
Despite all that has been done to him, he found a tiny
8 week old puppy with medical problems of his own and
decided to take care of him. He had never met this puppy
before they were both picked up the same day as strays
and somehow ended up being kenneled together... Ben
lets the puppy eat first, and out of the same bowl.
He mothers this little puppy whom he has never met before...
He is truly a Gentle Ben. He has been through far too
much in his life not to be finally taken care of and
have a chance to be spoiled rotten... "Gavin"This
sweet little 10 week old puppy has a case of generalized
Demodex mange which is completely preventable. treatable
and no reason why it should get this bad... He was found
as a stray, and Gentle Ben has taking on the role of
mothering him. Little Gavin is going to take some time
with medication to completely, heal but he will look
like a brand new puppy when he is!Both are expected
to make full recoveries over time. We are seeking out
long term fosters for both. Please contact Adoptions@RugazRescue.com
for more information on either of these kids!
Update 08/28/2011 -We went to get Ben and Gavin
from Animal Services the morning of 08/26/2011 to be
hit with the information that the owner's have been
found for them. With mixed emotions of "How could
they get this way and the owners come forward and want
to claim them?" ... "Now we know who we can
hold accountable for there medical ailments!" etc...
We wanted to know how, who, when where and why they are
like this...Well to our surprise and glee Ben's owners
are not that "bad" after all! Ben is current
on his vaccines, and tagged and unfortunately through
miss communication he was unaware that the dogs were
at Animal Services. Like many people at this time and
age funding is always an issue and a huge part to play
and Ben himself is a rescue dog to them, as is baby
Gavin. We are now in contact with the owners and are
going to be working out getting Ben's eye repaired and
neutered at the same time free of charge to the owners
if they will let us. :)Gavin is now is RRInc care in
a foster home, as they had rescued Gavin themselves
and were looking for a better environment for him to
get well in to begin with because they did not have
the funding to care for him themselves! What a fantastic
win-win for ALL the dogs and people involved! Hopefully
with some time and work Ben is able to stay home and
receive the medical care he needs, and Gavin was rescued
and will also get all the medical care he needs and
be able to find a forever home. Although Gavin is in
a little bit worse shape then we originally had thought
(He has a sever secondary staff infection all over his
body and pneumonia) He is looking to recover shortly
with some much needed time spent in the Hospital and
will be on the road to full recovery soon! What a fantastic
team effort of Animal Services, Community members, Rescue
members and some amazing selfless people that these
two dogs are getting everything they need!***To everyone
who donated directly to there care. We do indeed have
Gavin in our care, but Ben will be staying with his
owners and we will be working with them on sponsoring
his needed medical treatment but he is not an RRInc.
dog. If you would like to have your donation refunded
or if you would like to have it apply to another one
of our many medical dogs please E-mail into Adoptions@RugazRescue.com
and let us know who you would like us to apply it to!***

Miss "Jewel"
found herself as a stray at Hillsborough County Animal
Services and out of time. She has an awesome
personality, and we just don't know how she
lost her way from home and no one was ever able to find
her. She unfortunately could not be apart of the Ambassador
program at Hillsborough because she was Heartworm +.
So she found herself now in foster care here at RRInc.
and currently undergoing the start of Heartworm Treatment.
As soon as she finishs her treatment she will be able
to start looking for a forever home!

Momma
"Cinnamon" has a unfortunately becoming common
story to tell...
Her and her litter of 10 babies came into animal services
as "Strays"... How a mother and her entire
litter of puppies become "Strays" we will
never understand... The puppies only being 2 weeks old,
and the whole family being pit bulls. The chances of
them all getting out was slim... Until someone notified
us that they were there. With a mass of Volunteer efforts
we were able to move the entire family into foster care
to get them safe, healthy and happy.
Well now all the puppies are spayed/neutered, and some
have even found forever homes, the others have found
new foster homes... So it's Momma "Cinnamons"
time to get taken care of!
Momma "Cinnamon" is now spayed, and started
her Pre-Heartworm Treatment and will be able to move
onto her actual Treatment soon and then some down time
in her Post-Treatment...
Often time people don't look past the litter of puppies,
to see the medical case parents that when those puppies
are gone still need to be taken care of. Momma "Cinnamon"
is a fantastic girl who is going to make a fantastic
addition to any home when she is healthy very soon!
Momma "Cinnamon" is Cat/Dog Friendly and
would love nothing more then to sit on a couch with
a new forever family full of children to dote on! We
are now currently accepting application for Foster-to-Adopt
post treatment for Miss "Cinnamon"!

She
came into the shelter as a stray, but her personality
shown bright through that kennel. They tested her in
the Pit Bull Ambassador program and she passed but unfortunately
she was Heartworm Positive so they could not put her
up in the program.
They kept re-testing her every
few weeks to buy her time at the shelter to try to find
a rescue to take her, but a
Heartworm Positive Pit Bull amongst
all the others was really becoming a shot in the dark...
Finally a foster home opened
up at RRInc, and we were able to bring her into the
Rescue. Today is the day we get to bring this beautiful
girl from the shelter that fought so hard for her to
make it out, into a foster home where she will finally
get to rest her head and start the Heartworm Treatment
she needs to get better!
Look at this smile, who
can resist!

"Momma
Sadie" and her 11 babies
were found living in a Thrift Store with a nice couple
who were in a bad situation and just needed some help.
Momma Sadie came to them from a bad situation herself
and they were trying to do the right thing helping her...
Well unfortunately that led into a litter because they
had 2 intact males at home that they were trying to
find the funding to neuter themselves. So once Sadie
gave birth they moved her to the Thrift Store so they
could be away from the males at home, and were praying
someone would see them and be able to help. Rugaz Rescue
Inc. is working directly with the owners while Momma
Sadie and her babies are safely in a foster home to
get the two males at neutered while Sadie and her babies
are away. Once the babies are 8 weeks old and it's clear
to spay Momma Sadie, We are spaying her and the Owners
are bringing her back home!
It is families and situations like these that we can
help one by one getting their dogs spayed/neutered and
keeping them in their homes. It is unfortunate there
are 11 babies that now need homes, but they will also
be spayed/neutered before finding forever homes. So
this whole situation is ending with 3 adult pitties
getting spayed and neutered and getting to stay home,
and 11 babies getting spayed and neutered before they
find forever homes!
If we could have more outcomes like this we might be
able to make a dent in this puppy epidemic!
It also looks like this family is going to kick off
our new Grant program for Spaying/Neutering Pitties!
More information to come!

Meet "Wish"...
So named for her one Wish in life... To live. This baby
came into Orange County Animal Services as a "Stray"...
No one to blame for the state she is in... This timid
little girl was locked somewhere and left to die, much
like our Barnaby... She is urine stained from the bottom
of her chest down, and simply... A walking skeleton...
Starving dogs has become an epidemic
as of recently and there is just no excuse for any of
this. Dogs like "Wish" and "Barnaby"
were confined somewhere and forgotten about. Left to
die a miserable and horrible death alone. How we do
we this as a human race? Much like "Barnaby",
Miss Wish just wants to be loved...
Update 05/26/11:
The picture to the right is of her on 05/26/2011 52lbs.
All of her urine stains gone and was spayed yesterday!
That means she is ready to find a forever home!!!

his bottom jaw of skin being caught in a chain link
fence for hours and he is heartworn +. So after much

"Honey Bun" was transfered from Miami-Dade
Animal Services on 01/08/2011 with a sever case of Demodex Mange.
As many of you know, we have Oliver and Frisco who are in the
same shape as this little girl. Demodex is a highly preventable
and curable disease when treated. When left it can be deadly,
and this is the point Honey Bun is at. This girl is going to take
a long-term medical care, and even through all this pain she just
wants to be by your side....
A true Ambassador of her breed... Loving through
all what people have done to her...
She is currently being treated at:

Meet Momma
"Heidi" and her 10 babies... Signed over on
03/17/2011 by a family who had originally found her
as a stray 4 months prior and was keeping her in a chicken
coup outside. They have an intact male Chihuahua/Jack
Russell male who unfortunately met up with Heidi, and
along came the family. They could not afford to care
for the adult dogs let along the puppies, so they sought
out help from Rugaz Rescue Inc and we were able to remove
the dogs from the family to get the much needed care
they were lacking. Once we obtained the entire family
mother is about 1/2 of her body weight she should be
and Heartworm +. The babies would not have lasted much
longer, infested with fleas, and eyes sealed shut with
puss from the elements they were living in.
Once the family is weaned and able to be seperated from
Heidi, she will be spayed and under go heartworm treatment
so she too will be able to find a forever home of her
own as well as her family.
Stay up-to-date with this family daily on thier own

Frisco came from Melbourne Animal Services as a "Stray".
He was found with another perfectly healthy blue and white pittie,
and he was claimed. Frisco was left there to die. He ears are
cropped off horribly to his head, and he has a very curable/treatable
and preventable disease when it's caught in the early stages.
Frisco's face is oozing with blood and infection and has to be
scrubbed daily, and a sulfur medication applied daily. He is on
a twice a day anti-biotic, An anti-inflammatory/sedative to try
to help his swelling and itching twice a day. He's on bi-weekly
promeris and has to wear an E-collar for two weeks to help his
face heal. This poor boy is being put through the ringer to save
his life, when it's something so simply that his owner could have
easily cured instead of watching him get this bad...
He is currently being treated at:

This sad soul was found as a stray roaming the streets
in Hillsborough county. Covered in urine stains and emaciated
to the point of death. When a fecal was run, he was negative of
all intestinal parasites and bloodwork came back completely normal.
So in the end, someone confined Barnaby somewhere and left him
to die. The result of his neglect is a direct result of a cruel
and horrible human being.
To help prevent bloat, a potentially fatal condition
that can be caused by eating too fast, Barnaby is being given
multiple small meals throughout the day to help him slowly gain
the weight he desperately needs.
*Update 05/09/2011*
Sweet, Goofball Barns. Humans put you through so much
being left confined to die covered in urine and only
weighing 1/2 of your body weight should be. Sometimes
that leaves a lasting impression, and that isn't any
ones fault Barns. You had everyone by your side, and
everyone is still by your side now. You will forever
continue to change minds and help people learn about
Animal Cruelty just like Oakley big boy.
You don't have to guard anyone, or think anyone is taking
anything away from you ever again Barns... You are at
peace now, where everything is yours buddy. You never
have to fear you wont get your meal, or play time. You
wont have to fear people coming in your house, or doing
things you don't want to do buddy... It's all about
you now...Your foster family showed you the only unconditional
truly spoiled love you had ever known, but sometimes
even that is not enough to heal the wounds of the past.
We all miss you very much, and everyone who worked with
you loved you very much. You have changed the lives
of so many people, those you have met and those who
have not even met you at all. Just with your goofball
smile, you changed hearts and minds... You will continue
to forever do that as well... We will miss you.

Oliver came to us from Orange County Animal Services as a "stray"
who wondered up to someone somehow. Being a "stray"
is impossible for Oliver. He lives for human companionship and
absolutly adores and follows everyone around. He wouldn't stray
away from anyone. Someone watched him get to be in this condition...
Oliver is currently being treated for A sever case of Demodexx
Mange, A Lrage open wound on his leg, and a puncture hole through
his ear. He is on daily anti-biotics, daily therapy lasor treatments,
weekly medicated baths, and bi-weekly applications of promeris.
This boy is a fighter.... He is fighting to live and love...
His name is "Oliver"...
The meaning of "Oliver" - "Olive Tree"
Why we named him after the "Olive Tree"...
"That the olive signifies the good of charity,
is evident from the signification in the Word
not only of an olive, but also of oil. It was
with olive oil, together with spices, that the
priests and kings were anointed, and it was with
olive oil that the lamps were trimmed (Exod. 30:24;
27:20). The reason olive oil was used for anointing
and for lamps was that it represented all that
is celestial, and therefore all the good of love
and of charity; for the oil is the very essence
of the tree, and is as it were its soul, just
as the celestial, or the good of love and of charity,
is the very essence or the very soul of faith;
and hence oil has this representation. That oil
signifies what is celestial, or the good of love
and of charity, may be confirmed from many passages
of the Word; but as it is the olive-tree that
is mentioned here, we will merely present some
passages that confirm its signification"
Oliver was such a keeper his foster mom decided
to make him family! Congrats Tonja and Oliver!!

8/6/10 - A few weeks ago we transferred three blue puppies; Elaina,
Damon, and Stephan. These pups were is awful shape when we recieved
them, suffering from a condition known as demodex mange. On top
of that they had severe skin infection and were coming down with
kennel cough. These kids were swollen and sore, but despite that,
all they wanted to do is cuddle and be loved. Damon was the smaller
of the boys and was the least severe out of the three. With the
spectacular work of his foster home, he finished his treatment
and we are happy to report that he was just adopted! Unfortuntely
Elaina and Stephen have a longer road to recovery, ahead of them.
We are doing everything we can to get these two healed up and
into a forever home, but we need help from our wonderful supporters
to do so! Please help us, help them!
8/13/10 - Elaina has recieved the all clear and is ready for
adoption!
Stephan still has some recovering to do, but we hope
that he too will soon be on his way to finding his forever home!

*Update 06/16/2010* - PB's Previous owners were Enjoined to not
own any animals for 5 years!!! Win for Team Rugaz Rescue and PB!
Congrats PB now you get to be in a wonderful forever home who
cares for you, and your working towards your CGC Breed Ambassador!
05/26/2010 - This boy came in half dead from the filth above.
Yes the picture you see above was his "Home" and the
picture of him above is how he came to us out of his "home"
with the tireless work efforts of Hillsborough County Animal Services.
Completely scabbed over, needing a blood transfusion and almost
completely hairless this boy fought for his life with everyone
right behind him rooting him on. He is truly an Ambassador of
his breed, loving everything that he meets and truly living every
day to the fullest.
He is still under going treatment for his Demodex mange, but
will be available for adoption once completely cleared.
For us to continue to help dogs like PB, Roxy, Persistence's and Sooki we rely
on donations from people like you! Anything from
$1.00 to $100.00 makes the difference in us being
able to save medical cases like all these on this
Guardian Angels site...

Achilles story is a sad one.
He was adopted from Rugaz Rescue Inc. in 03/2007 to a wonderful
family who's mother was a RN. They adored Achilles, and we went
to see him on a few occasions to help with training. 2 1/2 Years
have gone by and Achilles was brought in as a stray to Hillsborough
County Animal Services with an horribly embedded collar, Heartworm
Positive and a horrible aggression towards dogs. We are currently
doing an investigation on his previous owner to get answers on
what happend to Achilles. After being questioned Tacara states
Achilles ran away Nov' 07' while she "Tied him up while moving
furnature to her new home". He was found in the 8000 block
of Temple Place in Tampa, Fl. 33617... Which is within 6 miles
of the address when she adopted him. Someone in that area has
to know something about him. About where he was tied up at, who
had him.
Achillies upon his arrival at Hills. Co. Animal Services
Update on Investigation: Tacara Drew stated she tied him up outside
while she was moving and when they came back "He was just
gone"... After contacting her current landlord where she
moved to on that date the landlord stated "There is a no
dog policy". So even if Achilles went missing on "moving"
day she couldn't bring him with her anyways... So really... What
did she do to Achilles that fateful day? Tacara Drew, your story
does not add up....
There is a reward for any information leading to the proven where
abouts of Achilles in the past two years...
*UPDATE 06/16/2010* - Tacara Drew "Achilles" previous adopter was
enjoined to NEVER own animals again! "Justice For
Achilles Prevails!"

Roxy's story is a sad one, much like all the ones
were looking for Guadian Angel's for. Roxy had a family but unfortunetly
one day it all fell apart. She lived with 5 Human children and 3
doggy siblings as well. The wife and 5 children had to go up north
to stay with family members while the husband stayed behind to try
to work out some issues. Unfortunetly she could not bring the dogs
with her, and the children came first. Well the husband was sent
to rehab and couldn't come home, so they arranged to have a neighbor
feed the dogs until they could make solid plans for them. A family
member came over to check on them and Roxy and her siblings looked
all much like this, Roxy being the worst. She is a little head shy,
and scared of almost everything. She is coming around and gives
the best sweet kisses a little girl could ever give... With some
TLC she will make a full recovery and find a forever loving home...
Update 05/20/2010: Miss Moxy Roxy is fully recovered
and ready to find her forever home!!

could be medically taken care of immediately. Well she found her
way here to Rugaz Rescue Inc.
Update: Persistence fully recovered and found an amazing forever
home!

Norma Jean's story unfortunately
seems to be more common now, then it ever was.
She was found as a stray roaming around the streets
of Tampa, filled with Milk and looking for her
babies somewhere. It had looked as if she had
given birth within the week, and we are absolutely
amazed no one ever came for her. Well when her
stray time was up, we jumped up and pulled her
from Animal Services, to find out that this awesome

Clopinel Pascal
"Hillsborough Animal Services officials say they don't believe
Clopinel "James" Pascal's story that he attacked a pit
bull with a machete because the dog attacked him and his dog first.
"It doesn't add up so far," said Marti Ryan, spokeswoman
for Animal Services.
Pascal, 31, was arrested Friday afternoon on a charge of animal
cruelty. Investigators say he struck the white female pit bull with
a pipe and machete, partially cutting its ear off. He was released
from jail early Saturday after posting $2,000 bail.
Pascal said he had attempted to rehabilitate the dog and socialize
it with his own pit bull after it had been abused and abandoned
by neighbors. He said when he was trying to tie up the abandoned
dog in the backyard of his home in Sulphur Springs, it attacked
him and then his dog, "Sasha," when Sasha tried to defend
him.
Pascal said he picked up the machete to defend himself.
A witness, however, on Friday told investigators the pit bull was
walking up the street when Pascal lured the dog into his yard, closed
the gate, picked up a pipe and started beating the dog with it.
He was "laughing the whole time,'' Pascal's arrest report stated.
Both dogs were taken into custody by Animal Services.
Ryan, of Animal Services, said today the injured pit bull is still
in their care and is a sweet dog.
"She seems very forgiving to humans," she said.
Ryan thinks the dog was a stray but at one point had owners.
Pascal's pit bull didn't have a mark on her from the alleged fight
and is "extremely animal aggressive," she said.
The injured dog doesn't have a microchip to identify her, Ryan said.
She had several other cuts on her body and they are still doing
tests on her to determine if she has heartworms or other ailments.
The dog could soon be up for adoption, Ryan said." |
